The long road Home...
Ok... so if you've never been to Mixed Views before, welcome. If you know me or the comic and are either returning or checking back to see what nonsense I've got to spit out... welcome back.
Mixed Views was my little only "baby" as it were. An outlet for my creativity that allowed me to pump out a cartoon semi-regularly and get some feedback from the online community at large. I was never as big as a Penny Arcade, Sinfest or PVP (nor do I hold those allusions of grandeur) but I did gather around 10,000 hits my first year up with well over 200 toons on the site. I had been picked up by 3 New Brunswick papers (1 for one off's, one semi-regular and one regular) and I was in discussions with the Democrat and Chronicle in New York when my world, artwork wise and in many other ways came apart.
I had a car accident. Or rather I had one thrust upon me... and rather than re-hash all of that, at the end of the day, the result was that I could no longer draw or write with my right hand without it aching and falling asleep. Even though it was my back that hurt, apparently all those things are connected and my right side still gives me a lot of grief. I went through over a year of physical therapy and then another year of hitting the gym (I know pretty funny right) to try and get my back to some source of normalcy and get everything working the way it was supposed to.
The end result was that I have a certain degree of discomfort I'm just going to have to live with for the rest of my life. The upside happened about 6 months ago when a friend pionted me to a threadless contest. I wasn't familiar with them (definite fan now... still want the "Dark Side of the Garden" shirt if anyone out there is looking for that last minute gift idea :) but read about the contest and decided to pull out my wacom tablet and put together an entry. The theme of the contest was to get across the word "sensuous" in the picture with 6 colors or less and no words. It was for an album that was launching, so music was a ty-in as well.
Being back at the wacom was invigorating... and my hand didn't fall asleep or hurt.... cha-ching. So knowing that my old site www.mixedviews.com had since been bought up by some @$$hat... not sure why... I mean who wants it but me (I'm sure it's because it ran for 3 years and actually had some site hits... and I paid for it originally... maybe the just bought it on principal)... and that I'd have to rebrand and launch (mixedviews.net is still open says weebly... so is mixed.views.com....) and that I didn't have any new toons... it went to the back burner.
I wrote down toon ideas when I could and then compiled them yesterday to see I had almost 300 new ideas written down... this is on top of my old book everyone may or may not not about that has about the same number of ideas waiting to be drawn.
Then I found Weebly.com!!! Free website, for those fiscally challenged (hey, 1 income family, back off) and an outlet for me... since I seem to be getting rolling again.... Thank you Weebly! you rock.
So I'm in the process of uploading the old toons that will all fall under "Memory Lane" Pages ones the new ones launch, then I'll start putting just new ones in the "Pages" links at the top... for now the old ones are in both places so they are easy to find.
I hope you have fun poking around. I hope you get either a new laugh or a remembered one if you're seeing the toon again. Thanks for giving me a couple minutes of your day... and if you liked the toons, drop me a line at email@example.com I'd love to hear from you. Now to end on an old line.
That's my Penny times 2,
PS.. oh BTW, the picture I did, but never entered... is below.
